Llama Bar pres. 'Juice' – Jazz/Hip-hop & Cabaret
Every Thursday night at the Llama Bar, Subiaco.
The Llama Bar is proud to announce JUICE on Thursday nights from 28 November. JUICE is a cool hip hop/jazz hybrid – the only weekly live event in Australia of its kind, bringing jazz instrumentalists and hip hop MC’s together live on stage.
The weekend party set know the Llama Bar as a stylish late night party, with Fri/Sat DJ’s pumping dance beats till the early hours. But the Llama midweek is something quite different…
For almost a decade the venue has been host to a weekly evening of high energy jazz every Thursday evening. The legendary local jazz act, ‘Void’ clocked up an unprecedented five year stint as resident Thursday band before heading overseas to seek their fame and fortune on the stages of Europe. This month, the Thursday live music concept will be given an exciting reboot with the launch of JUICE.
JUICE is all about high energy, live and original music that transcends pure jazz, providing an exciting, contemporary and accessible musical melange. It’s about dynamic, young local musicians with something to prove. It’s jazz, Jim, but not as you know it. If you liked the “Jazzamatazz” series of albums then this night is for you.
The secret is in the mix…
JAZZ: A bedrock of jazz grooves is laid by local jazz rising stars “Premiss” featuring the cream of WAAPA graduates (Brendon Grey, Oliver Christie, Bronton Ainsworth, Ben Matthews & Jeremy Thompson). They are joined on stage by “The Ruby Horns”, a local horn trio bringing cool brass hooks to the mix. Dressed in their trademark sharp suits, the band create an exciting live show.
SOUL: A dash of soul is provided by local diva Sarah Pellicano. Her sultry and powerful vocal talents channel the likes of Florence Welch, Missy Higgins and Etta James.
HIP HOP: A brash, intelligent vocal edge comes in the form of hip hop wunderkind, Marksman Lloyd. Dubbed by Colosoul Magazine as “the poster boy for educated and progressive hip hop”, Lloyd’s resume boasts gigs with Australian and international hip hop superstars including MACKLEMEORE AND RYAN LEWIS, BRIAN ALI and DRAPHT. Lloyd has also performed at HYPERFEST and THE PERTH INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL. His infectious live shows push the boundaries of hip hop with intelligent lyrics and a passionate delivery. See him and boast about it later when he’s famous.
The Llama Bar is an iconic Perth late night venue that has recently undergone a plush makeover. A new focus on dining involves a stunning share menu priced for value. As always, Llama’s infamous bespoke cocktail list continues to impress. Located at 464 Hay Street Subiaco, visit www.llamabar.com to join the mailing list for more news.
